Abstract

This study is about the relationship between the students’ watching films and students’ pronunciation mastery. Since it is still doubted whether or not there is a significant correlation between watching films and students’ pronunciation mastery, the writer conducted a research to obtain the answers to those questions. The population of this research is 60 from the seventh grade students of SMPN 1 Pakem .The process of sample selection is randomized, using the techniques of simple random sampling. The test was given to 40 students that represent the criteria. The writer stated the null hypothesis of the research as follows: “There is a significant relationship between the students’ activity in watching films and students’ pronunciation mastery”. The results with the test product moment correlation obtained as rcount - 0.116; rtable of 0.312; with significance 0.477 is greater than 0.05 (sig> 0.05). Because of the value of rcount is less than rtable and significance values greater than 0.05, so the hypothesis that "There is a positive and significant relationship between watching films and students' pronunciation mastery among the seventh grade students at SMPN 1 Pakem, Sleman "is rejected. Therefore, the writer would like to offer suggestions to the English students to enhance mastery pronunciation by watching films. It is expected to improve student achievement in pronunciation mastery. The results of this study can be considered and can continue the other researchers’ research by investigating other factors related to the students' pronunciation mastery, such as: motivation, school environment, family environment, school infrastructure and facilities available.
