Abstract
The research aimed to: (1) produce augmented reality of story book that fulfilled the appropriateness criteria, (2) find out the effectiveness of the augmented reality of story book to increase the mathematical communication skills and curiosity characters of the fourth grade students of elementary school. The research used research and development model by Borg & Gall (1983). The subject of try out was the fourth grade students. The subject in the field for the first try out consisted of 9 students, 15 students of the main field try out and 90 students of the operational field try out. The collecting data was done by doing interview, giving questionnaire, doing observation and test. The instruments of the collecting data used were the interview guideline, the questionnaire of introducing the study, questionnaire of experts’ judgment, questionnaire of teachers’ response, questionnaire of students’ response, observation checklist of curiosity characters, and test of mathematical communication skills. The appropriateness of augmented reality of story book was analyzed by using conversion score into four categories. The effectiveness of the book in increasing the mathematical communication skills and curiosity characters was analyzed by using t-test and MANOVA test with 0.05 of significant value. The results of the research showed that: (1) the developed augmented reality of story book already fulfilled the appropriateness criteria based on the validity of the experts of materials, media and language, teachers’ response and students’ response; (2) the augmented reality of story book was effective to increase the mathematical communication skills and curiosity characters. The results of t-test and MANOVA test shows that the book was significantly effective to increase the mathematical communication skills and curiosity characters of the fourth grade students of elementary school with p-value about 0.000 less than significant value about 0.05 ( p < 0.05).
