Abstract

This research aim (1) to determine the effect of the CIRC model on interest in writing a descriptive teks and (2) to determine the effect of the CIRC model on skill in writing a descriptive text of fourth-grade elementary school students. The research design used quasi-experimental in the form of a non-randomized pretest-posttest control group design. The subjects of this study were the fourth- grade students of Jamblangan Elementary School (30 students) and Margomulyo 1 Elementary School (29 students) as experimental group and Pete Elementary School (31 students) and Klaci Elementary School ( 28 students) as a control group. The data were collected by using questionnaires and tests. The Rho Pearson test (SPSS Version 25) was used to examine the validity of the questionnaire. The collected data were analyzed descriptively, classic assumption tests namely normality and linearity tests, and hypothesis testing were using ANOV A. The results show that (1) the significant value of the first hypothesis test is 0.00 <0.05. This shows that the null hypothesis (Ho) is rejected and the alternative hypothesis (H1) is accepted. Thus, it can be concluded that the Cooperative Integrated Reading and Composition (CIRC) model has a positive and significant effect on the interest of fourth-grade students in writing descriptive texts. (2) Furthermore, the result of the second hypothesis test shows that the significant value is 0.00 < 0.05. It also reveals that the null hypothesis (Ho) is rejected and the alternative hypothesis (H1) is accepted. Thus, it can be concluded that the Cooperative Integrated Reading and Composition (CIRC) model has a positive and significant effect on the descriptive text writing skill of fourth-grade students.
