Abstract

This study aims to describe the management of vocational education for mentally retarded children disabilities in SLB Negeri 1 Yogyakarta. Which includes (1) vocational education management planning, (2) vocational education management organization, (3) vocational education management implementation, (4) vocational education management supervision. This study uses a descriptive method with a qualitative approach. This research was conducted at SLB Negeri 1 Yogyakarta. The subjects of this study included the principal and nine vocational skills teachers. Data was collected through interviews, observation and documentation review. Data analysis was carried out through data collection, data reduction, data presentation, and drawing conclusions. The results of this research of vocational education applies the stages of vocational education management functions which consist of (1) vocational education management planning for students with intellectual disabilities: planning to set long- term and short-term goals is carried out before the new school year, the school preparing long-term and short-term goals taking into account the aspects of skills and field needs, the parties involved in determining the goals are the principal, deputy principal, school committee, skills teachers and parents of students. Identify obstacles and facilities in vocational education programs from the results of previous program evaluations. (2) the organization of vocational education management for students with intellectual disabilities are: the division of the vocational management team is regulated based on the criteria for the educational background of vocational teachers. The division of teacher work responsibilities in accordance with the portion, the principal as the person in charge as well as the organization. (3) the implementation of vocational education management for students with intellectual disabilities are: implementation is carried out through learning activities, before learning the teacher prepares a learning program that is adjusted to the results of student assessments, the media used by the teacher is concrete media that has been provided by the school, the teacher uses the demonstration method in his learning and the teacher evaluates every time. (4) supervision of the management of vocational education includes: optimizing the improvement of vocational education programs, innovations from vocational programs, income and expenditure, directing or recommending improvements to the work of team members by providing briefing and discussion.
