Abstract

This study aims to: (1) produce learning modules based on a scientific approach that are suitable for use by students with intellectual disabilities, (2) produce learning modules based on an effective scientific approach. This research and development refer to the Borg and Gall development model which includes nine steps of activities, namely: 1) gathering information and needs studies, 2) designing, 3) initial product development, 4) early stage field trials, 5) revisions, 6) main field trials, 7) revisions, 8) operational field trials, 9) product improvements. The implementation of the module trial involving 18 students with mild intellectual disabilities at the Taruna Al-Quran Special Education School (SLB) and PGRI Sentolo Special Education School SLB. The feasibility assessment of the module was validated by two material experts in the field of Special Education and two media experts in the field of Educational Technology. Data collection techniques obtained was interviews, questionnaires and student performance tests in learning batik. Data analysis was done by quantitative descriptive. The batik module for students was effective based on the results of the Normalized Gain Test The results of the study are explained as follows: (1) students need for teaching media in the form of appropriate scientific-based modules based on the validation results of material experts are 4.07 (Good) and media experts are 4.39 (Very good), (2) The batik module based on a scientific approach is effectively used for students with intellectual disabilities in the mild category based on the average results of student performance obtaining a pre-test score (42.63%) and a post-test score (83.29%) in learning batik. The increase in the average score after using the scientific-based module is 40.66%.
