Abstract
This study was conducted to: (1) determine the needs of teachers in developing money skills’ teaching material, (2) produce a proper simulated- instruction-based teaching material to teach money skills for students with mild intellectual disabilities, (3) determine the effectiveness of teaching materials can provide teachers’ understanding to teach money skills to students with mild intellectual abilities, (4) produce a simulated instruction-based teachings’ material that effectively improved money skill on students. This study referred to the ADDIE development model. The subjects of the experiment were four teachers and four students on early grade from SLB Tunas Bhakti and SLB Yapenas. Data collection techniques used: interviews, tests, and questionnaires. Data analysis was done by quantitative descriptive. Teaching materials was proved effective based on the results of the N- Gain Test on students. The results of this study were: (1) the needs for developing money skills’ teaching materials were: attractive layout, intelligible and used communicative language, completed by illustrations that described simulation learning, and equipped with systematic and structured shopping skills’ task analysis, (2) product feasibility based on results of material expert was 4.12 (good) and media expert got 4.50 (very good), (3) teaching material was effective for teachers with an average increase of 3%, in providing teachers’ understanding to teach money skills to students with mild intellectual abilities and (4) teaching material was effective in increasing tudents’ mastery of money skills with a pre test score of 56.44% to 88.87% in the post test.
