Abstract

The purpose of this research is to improve: (1) the process of learning the ability to read and tell stories (2) the results of the learning process of reading and storytelling skills using the flap book lift media for grade I students of SD Puren Depok Sleman. The method of this research is classroom action research with Kemmis and Taggart design models. The subjects of this study were 28 students in grade I of Puren Depok Sleman State Elementary School consisting of 17 male students and 11 female students. Data collection techniques used were teacher and student observation and documentation. The instrument used were the observation sheet and performance test rubric. The collected data were analyzed using quantitative description techniques. The results showed that the use of the flap book lift media can improve students' reading and storytelling abilities. This can be seen increasing the average value of several indicators of ability to read and tell stories. Increased Research Class action results from reading learning process has increased that was the average value increased from the value of pre-cycle 72, the value of cycle 1 is 76 and cycle 2 is 83. Students who scored above the average increased from pre-cycle of 46.4%, cycle 1 as much 46.4% and cycle 2 85%. The results of the learning process of storytelling ability, the average value increased from 69 in pre-cycle to 74 in cycle 1 and 80 in cycle 2. Students whose score were above the average value increased from as much as 50% in pre-cycle to 71.4 in cycle 1 and 82.1% in cycle 2. Thus, it can be concluded that this research succeeded in improving the reading and storytelling abilities of Grade I Puren Depok Sleman Elementary School students. The use of the flap book lift media is to improve the reading and storytelling ability of Grade I Puren Elementary School can be reached.
