Abstract

The study aims to 1) develop a feasible learning resources for science book based on religious values, 2) examine the effectiveness of learning resources in the forms of a science book based on religious values to increase students’ reading interest and learning independence SD / MI throughout Srumbung District. It used development design from Borg and Gall that is adapted to field conditions. The subjects of the study were fifth-grade elementary school students in the Srumbung sub-district. Data collection instruments included interview guidelines, expert validation sheets, and scales. Qualitative data were analyzed descriptively and the quantitative data were analyzed by multivariate and univariate tests with a significance level of 0.05. The results of the study are in the forms of religious value-based science books. It obtained examination results from material experts and linguists. The score earned from the material expert feasibility test was 3.54 with category A (very good). The score from the material expert feasibility test was 3.89 with category A (very good). The learning resources of natural science- based books are effective for increasing interest in reading and learning independence simultaneously with a significance value of 0.004. The univariate test on learning independence showed a significance value of 0.001 and on reading interest demonstrated a significance value of 0.046. The conclusion from the results of this study is that the religious value-based science books can significantly increase the students’ reading interest and learning independence
