Abstract

The study aims to (1) produce the desaign of Exbox app that suit to improve learning motivation and concept understanding of ethnic diversity material at 4th grade elementary school students, (2) produce Exbox app that suit to improve learning motivation and concept understanding of ethnic diversity material at 4th grade elementary school students, (3) determine the feasibility of Exbox app to improve learning motivation and concept understanding of ethnic diversity material at 4th grade elementary school students. This study was a research and development (R&D) that adapted Borg & Gall development model with stages of research and preliminary information gathering, planning, preliminary product format development, preliminary trial, preliminary trial revision, wider trial, wider trial revision, operational trial, and final product revision. This study was conducted at the elementary school of Blitar. The trial subjects consisted of 6 MI Al-Mahmud students at preliminary trial, 12 MI Hidayatullah students at wider trial, 48 MI Perwanida students for experimental and control class at operational trial. The data were collected through observation, interviews, media expert validation, material expert validation, student response questionnaire, teacher response questionnaire, learning motivation questionnaire, and concept understanding test. Data analysis instruments used were descriptive analysis, n-gain test, independent t-test to compare learning motivation and concept understanding, and paired sample t-test to see the increase learning motivation and concepts of understanding. The results show that (1) the study has produced the Exbox app that suit to improve learning motivation and concept understanding of ethnic diversity material, (2) the feasibility of the product by material experts obtains an average score of 92.6% concluded "very feasible" category. Product feasibility by media experts obtains an average score of 89.7% concluded "very feasible" category. In the preliminary trial, students responses obtain an average score of 91.6% with "very feasible" category and teacher response obtains an average score of 82.8% with the "very feasible" category. In the wider trial, students responses obtain an average score of 91.6% concluded "very feasible" category and teacher response obtains an average score of 86.8% with the "very feasible" category, (3) The results of independent t-test on learning motivation obtains a significance value of 0.003 < 0.05. The results of independent t-test concept understanding obtains a significance value of 0.004 < 0.05. The results of paired sample t-test on learning motivation obtains a significance value of 0.000 < 0.05. The results of paired sample t-test on concept understanding obtains a significance value of 0.000 < 0.05.
