Abstract

the learning process that implements Curriculum 2013 in schools. This study was a Research and Development adopting Thiagarajan, Semmel, & Semmel (1974)’s Four D model. There were 197 fifth-graders in four schools currently implementing Curriculum 2013 as the trial subjects. Four experts were asked to assess the scale to determine the content validity index, namely Aiken’s V Content Validity Index. The results were then analysed by using confirmatory factor analysis to reveal the construct validity indicated by convergent validity, discriminant validity, and collinearity statistics (VIF). The reliability of the scale was estimated by determining composite reliability and Average Variance Extracted (AVE). This study finds the following results. Firstly, there are 43 out of 50 items that comply with the threshold required by Aiken’s Content Validity Index. Secondly, the result of confirmatory factor analysis shows that 26 items fulfil the convergent validity as the Outer Loadings are greater than 0,70, fulfil the discriminant validity as every item has the strongest correlation with its corresponding factor if compared to the other factors, and collinearity issue is not found as there is no item reaching the maximum VIF value of 10. The confirmatory factor analysis suggests that 26 out of 43 items fulfil the construct validity. Thirdly, the result of reliability estimation shows that 26 items have composite validity above 0,70 and Average Variance Extracted (AVE) above 0,5. Fourthly, 26 out of 50 initial items are considered valid and reliable. Therefore, the final scale consisting of 26 items can be deployed to assess fifth-graders’ scientific attitudes.
