Abstract

This research aims to produce: (1) digital interactive picture storybook as an excellent method to increase nationalist character and concept comprehension of elementary school, (2) digital interactive picture storybook as an effective method to increase nationalist character and concept comprehension of elementary school. This research was a development research based on Borg & Gall’s development model (1983) including ten implementation stages: (1) research and information collecting, (2) planning, (3) develop preliminary form of product, (4) preliminary field testing, (5) main product revision, (6) main field testing, (7) operational product revision, (8) operational field testing, (9) final product revision, (10) dissemination and implementation. The research subjects were students and teachers of the fifth grade elementary school in cluster III, Binangun Sub-district. The data were collected by interviews, observations, documentation, test and questionnaire. Then, the data were analyzed using the independent t-test, paired t-test, and MANOVA with significance level of 5%. The development result of this research is in the form of digital interactive picture storybook for Indonesian History according to the material experts and media experts. The product feasibility according to the material experts gains the score of 112 with category “Excellent”, while from media experts gains the score of 133 with category “Excellent”. The result of teacher’s response questionnaire obtains the score of 141 with category “Excellent” and the student’s response questionnaire obtains the score of 70 with category “Excellent” too. Moreover, the result of operational test shows the significance level of 0.000<0.05 indicating a significant difference on the competence of nationalist character and comprehension on historical material concepts between the students who learn with and without using digital interactive picture storybook. Therefore, the digital interactive picture storybook for Indonesian History that has been developed is considered an effective tool to increase the student nationalism character and comprehension on concepts of historical contents.
