Abstract

The findings of the first year of the research show that the competence of Indonesian teachers and students in multicultural education is lower than that of New Zealand teachers and students. The second year of the research aims to reveal the school policy in developing teachers’ competence in multicultural education in Indonesian junior and senior high schools. The design of the research is Research and Development. A mixed method is used in the analysis, in which the quantitative analysis is using descriptive statistics, whereas the qualitative analysis is done on the qualitative data. The expected outcomes of the research are (1) the identification of the school policy in developing teachers’ competence in multicultural education and (2) a draft of teachers’ handbook on Developing Cross-cultural Competence in Multicultural Education.
