Abstract

The one kind of attempts to improve the quality of graduate from Vocational School (SMK) education is to define a curriculum for the Vocational School (SMK) that matches with industry. The curriculum for the Vocational School (SMK) is different in comparison to the general school and has specific characteristics. Related to this, with an appropriate curriculum, graduates from vocational school can be absorbed by the world of work, unemployment may be reduced and the skills trained will match the competenci es needed in industry. Support from the government is necessary because vocational schools require substantial funds to develop proper facilities, equipment, supplies, and instructional resources. The method used in this study is research qualitative exploratory aims to explore extensively on competency in the world of work in the field of software engineering. Methode for data collection used participant observation, in-depth interview, and documentation. To test the credibility of data research, researchers used a triangulation technique. Triangulation technique is capture data by a variety of methods and way by crossing the information obtained, data obtained a more complete and as expected. Data is credible after the data get saturated From these results obtained competence of software engineering can be grouped into: 1. Basic competence, 2. Competence professional and 3. attitudes. Basic competencies, competency related and supporting the professional competence. Professional competence is the mai n competence relating to the profession of software engineering. Attitude is relating to the behavior and working attitude.
