Abstract
Abstract: This study aims to investigate the form and the function of code switching and code mixing on students and lecturers in speech communicaton. The subjects of this research were the students and lecturers at Department of French FBS UNY. The data were collected using the survey method. The results showed that there are three factors of the cause of code switching and mixed code, theye are (1) relationship among speakers, (2) subject of speech, and (3) presence of a third speaker. The function of code switching and mixed switching consists of four, they are (1) effectiveness of communication, (2) conceal the information, (3) familiarity, and (4) formality, (4) casual / non-formal, (2) effectiveness of communication, (3) withheld information, (4) humor / joke. The lingual form of mixed code includes four categories, they are (1) noun, (2) verb, (3) adjectives, and (4) adverb. Keywords : code switching, code mixing, sociolinguistics,
