Abstract

The objectives of the research are to reveal (1) the effectiveness and (2) the differences of the use of pictures of famous people and video and the use of text books in teaching of writing skill to the seventh grade students of MTs Salafiyyah Bantarsari in the academic year of 2014/2015. The research method was experimental. The research was carried out at MTs Salafiyyah Bantarsari Cilacap, Central Java from March to April 2015. The subjects of the research were the grade seven the students of classes A, B and class C of MTs Salafiyyah Bantarsari. Each class consisted of 25 to 35. Class A was the control class which was taught using traditional media (Textbook), class B was the experimental class which was taught using pictures of famous people as media and class C was the experimental class taught using video as media. The data were obtained from the writing test. Administered to the students after they had the four treatments. The data were analyzed using analysis variance. Based the result of the hypothesis testing, it was found that the experimental group is significantly different from the control group since the mean score of the experimental group is higher than that of the mean of the control group. Therefore it can be concluded that using pictures of famous people and video media significantly affect the students’ writing skill, or teaching by using pictures of famous people and video is effective for increasing students’ writing skill.
