Abstract
The aim of this study was to examine the effect of using Weblog on the students’ writing skills at SMA N 5 Yogyakarta.It attempted to investigatewhether there is a significant difference on students’ writing skills between those before and after the treatment in the academic year of 2012/2013. This study was classified as a pre-experimental study.The subjects of this study were 32 students of X-A Classin the second semester.In the beginning of the study, the class was given a pre-test to measure the student’s initial writing skills in the form of a written test consisting of one essay. After six meetings ofthe treatments, the class was given a post-test to find out whether there was a significant difference in the writing skills of the students.The data of the pre-test and post-test were analyzed by using descriptive and inferential statistics. After the data were tested and found to be homogeneous and normal, the hypothesis was tested using the t-test. The computation of the data statistics used a computer program namely SPSS 13.0. The result of thisstudy shows there is a significant difference on students’ writing skills between those before and after the treatment.It can be seen in the result of the hypothesis testing that the p value (0.00) is less than the significance level (0.05). Therefore, the hypothesis of this study is accepted. This indicates that the use of Weblog had improved the students’ writing skills in the English teaching and learning process at SMA N 5 Yogyakarta.
