Abstract

The objective of this study was to develop appropriate listening interactive multimedia for English in Focus for Grade VIII Junior High School at SMPN 4 Depok Sleman. This study is categorized into research and development (R&D). This study was conducted at SMPN 4 Depok Sleman. The research steps were adopted the model proposed by Allesi and Trolip (2001: 409-413). It consists of planning, design, and development. The data were the quantitative data obtained using questionnaire. The interactive multimedia was revised based on the experts’ suggestions. This unit developed three chapters of the listening interactive multimedia. The first is entitled “A Friend in need is A Friend indeed”. The second is entitled “Personal Experience”. The third is entitled “Share Your Story”. Based on the data, the appropriate listening interactive multimedia for English in focus have four components; the first is listening to the dialogue and text, the second is language function, the third is vocabulary, and the fourth is glossary. The interactive multimedia are considered appropriate as indicated by the questionnaires, the mean score from the content expert was 3.25 and the mean score from the media expert was 3.38. The interactive multimedia that have been developed are integrated into a CD so that it can be used by students to learn listening autonomously.
