Abstract
This research study aims at describing: (1) the forms of the violation of cooperative maxims used in Archie speech situation, (2) the forms of the violation of politeness maxims used in Archie speech situation, and (3) the way to understand maxim violations that makes the reading of the comic easier. The research design used in this study was the padan design. There was padan referential and padan pragmatics. The object of the study was maxim violation both co-operative and politeness in Archie comic. The source of data was Archie comic episode 212. This study used two data collection methods, namely reading comprehension and note-taking. The instrument was the researcher herself. The determination of the validity of the data from the data collection result in this research was done by reading comprehensively, by focusing each theme of the comic, and by comparing the observed data (Archie comic) with the theories. The technique of the data analysis used in this study was the padan technique. The result of this study reveals that there is violation of maxims both co- operative and politeness maxims. The forms of the violation of co-operative maxims are quantity, quality, relevance, and manner. The forms of the violation of politeness maxims are tact, approbation, modesty, agreement, and sympathy. The easier way to understand comics are reading verbal and nonverbal forms.
