Abstract

This research was aimed to describe the integration of Islamic values in the process of English teaching and learning at SDIT Al-Mumtaz Kota Pontianak in academic year 2013/2014. The research focus was (1) the integration of Islamic values in reference to the design of lesson plan in English teaching and learning at SDIT Al-Mumtaz, (2) the integration of Islamic values in reference to the development of materials in English teaching and learning activities, (3) the integration of Islamic values in reference to the process of evaluation given to the students in the process of English teaching and learning at SDIT Al-Mumtaz and (4) the factors which affect the integration of Islamic values in the process of English teaching learning. This research is a descriptive case study with a qualitative research design to thoroughly find ou facts and describe phenomena in which the researcher was the main instrument. The subject of the research was an English teacher at SDIT Al-Mumtaz. The data were collected interviews, participatory observation, documentation and video recording were the instruments used to help the researcher collecting the data. The validity of data was achieved through the triangulation of those instruments, along with a reference for a check and recheck from the informants. The researcher used interactive analysis method by Miles and Huberman was used to analyze the data involving the process of data reduction, data display and conclusion. The results of this research are performed as follows. First, the integration of Islamic values and lesson plans were done in the sections of instructional objectives and in the instructional materials. Second, the integration of Islamic values and material developments were done through several ways such as: (a) adding the exercises reflecting the Islamic values to the topic presented, (b) modifying the Islamic names of people, places and events (c) embedding the verses of Alquran to the suitable materials (d) mixing Islamic expressions and the relevant English expressions with the main materials. Third, the integration of Islamic values and the English teaching learning activities were: (a) by conducting code mixing and code switching between English and the Islamic expressions, (b) lingking to the topic discussed to the verses of Alquran, (c) using Islamic names for people, and finally, the integration of Islamic values and evaluation were through the informal and formal evaluation.
