Abstract

This study is aimed to know the effect of teaching English vocabulary using video songs, movies, and no video songs or movies; video songs and movies; video songs, and no video songs or movie; movies, and no video songs or movie in improving the English vocabulary mastery of class X of SMA Angkasa Adisutjipto Yogyakarta. This research was a quasi experiment using pretest and posttest to collect the data. The population comprised class X students of SMA Angkasa Adisutjipto Yogyakarta of the academic year of 2012/2013. The researcher used random sampling. The first class experiment used video songs. The second class experiment used movies. The third class experiment did not use video songs or movies. The data from the score of the pretest and the posttest were analyzed using covariance (ANACOVA). The results of the study show that the significance is less than 0.05. It means that there is a difference in effect of teaching methods using video songs, using movies and without video songs or movies on the vocabulary mastery of class tenth of SMA Angkasa Adisutjipto Yogyakarta. The teaching methods using video songs and using movies improve the students’ vocabulary mastery of class X of SMA Angkasa Adisutjipto Yogyakarta
