Abstract

This study aims to describe the strategy of library promotion, obstacles, and efforts to overcome barriers of library promotion activities at the Library Service Center BPAD DIY (Grhatama Pustaka) in 2016. This research is a descriptive research. Research subjects are Head of Service Section, Responsible Activity, and Implementing Activities. Methods of data collection by interview, observation, and documentation. The research instrument uses interview guides, observation, and documentation. Test the validity of data with source triangulation and technique. Data analysis techniques using interactive models from Miles and Huberman are data condensation, data display, and conclusions. The results of the research show: 1) Promotion strategy, among others: a) Situation analysis, covering the need for promotion is considered important, people's interest in high libraries is seen from the users every day 800-1000, as well as the physical and non-physical supporting conditions; b) Planning with indicators determines the purpose of introducing and increasing the number of users performed by all employees and third parties with the target of the general public. Promotional activities with exhibitions, visits, and distribution of souvenirs through social media, electronic, printed, and direct methods conducted at all times using the budget from the APBD; c) Implementation, including cooperation with service providers and maximizing media, as well as planned methods; c) Evaluation is conducted with the target of all components involved. The impact is that the community knows Graphama Pustaka with 11,436 visits but a decrease in visits in February, June, and December 2016, and from January to April 2017 received 55 visits from education and non-education institutions, so the follow-up is the improvement of the service system, media, employee skills, and budget. 2) Barriers to activities, including a) lack of budget; b) differences in perceptions, minimal promotional form of promotion; c) low public interest; d) lack of coordination with outsiders Grhatama Pustaka, e) many events are followed equally when promotion. 3) Addressing efforts: a) maximizing the use of budgets according to DPA; b) sharing, monitoring and evaluation to find an interesting perception and form of promotion;
