Abstract
This study aims to reveal the effectiveness of modeling techniques group counseling using in improving the learning independence of grade VIII students of SMP Negeri 1 Martapura. This research is a quasi-experiment. The design used is the non-equivalent control group design. The sample was established using the purposive sampling technique, namely students who had low learning independence. It consists of 14 students (seven students were in the experimental group and seven students in the control group). The data collection technique used was the learning independence scale. The instrument reliability test used the alpha Cronbach formula. The test results with the alpha Cronbach formula are the reliability coefficient on the scale of 0.735 independent learning. The data analysis technique used was the Wilcoxon non-parametric statistic. The results show that group counseling with modeling techniques is effectively in improving the learning independence of grade VIII students (Sig = 0.018 <0.05). Based on the calculation results, it can be concluded that group counseling with modeling techniques is effective in improving the learning independence of grade VIII students of SMP Negeri 1 Martapura.
