Abstract
This objective of this study is to find out whether there is a significant difference in the grammatical competence among the second grade students of SMPN 2 Nusawungu, Cilacap before they were taught by using the magic disc and after they taught using the magic disc. The subjects of the study were the second grade students of SMPN 2 Nusawungu in the academic year of 2010/2011. It involved 35 students as the samples. They were from grade VIII of SMPN 2 Nusawungu in the academic year of 2010/2011. The study involved VIIIF as the experimental group. The experimental group were taught using magic disc as the treatment. In this research the group were given a pre-test and at the end of the research they were given a post-test. The results of the test were calculated by using SPSS (Statistic Package for Social Science) version 16.00 for windows computer program. Descriptive and inferential statistics were employed in analyzing the data. The results show a significant difference in the grammatical competence between the second grade students before taught by using the magic disc and after taught by using magic disc in reference to the students’ mean scores. The mean score of experimental group before the treatment is 49.69 and after the treatment is 55.14. With the employment of t-test, the value of ݐ ° (7.220) is higher than ݐ ݐ (1.668). The result of the study shows that the magic disc in teaching grammar gives positive effect on students’ grammar score.
