Abstract

The purpose of this research to describe: (1) Internal factors causing students drop out of school which cover the ability to think, health, and the dropped out students’ motivations to study in school, (2) External factors causing students drop out of school which cover economic factor, school policy, school environment, and living environment. This research uses descriptive qualitative approach. Subjects of the research are the principal, homeroom teacher, parents or family, public figure of the surrounding neighborhood, same age friends, and dropped out students. Object of the research is the factors influencing school dropout phenomena. Data validity technique uses source triangulation and technical triangulation. The techniques of collecting data are done through interviewing, observing, and doing documentation study. Data analysis techniques using the theory of Miles & Huberman: data condensation, data display, drawing and verifying conclusions. The result of the research shows that: (1)The internal factor considered to be more dominant influence the occurrence of students drop out from school, student motivation in school and students awareness of the importance of education are low, (2) The external factors don’t influence students to drop out of school.
