Abstract

This study aims to: (1) produce a digital game-based learning media in English listening practice, (2) find out the feasibility of digital game-based learning media and (3) investigate the effectiveness of digital game-based learning based on student’s motivation. This research and development was conducted based on the development model of Alessi & Trollip which includes (1) planning (2), designing, and (3) developing stage. The test applied in this research were alpha test, beta test, and an effectiveness test. The tests involved a material expert, media expert and vocational school students. The instruments were interviews, documentation guides, and scales for material expert, media expert, and questionnaire for vocational school students. The results show that: (1) Digital game-based learning media has been produced on English listening practice to increase the learning motivation of UGM vocational school students, (2) digital game-based learning media is feasible for use in learning based on the validation results of material experts with a percentage of 81% which is categorized feasible and media experts with a percentage of 82% which is categorized feasible, and (3) digital game-based learning media is effective on motivation in English listening practice at the UGM vocational school with an n- gain score of 0.31 in the medium category.
