Abstract

This study aims to: 1) produce an English learning animation video on Can and Will material that is appropriate for the eighth-grade junior high school students, and 2) to determine the effectiveness of the developed English learning animation video on the learning outcomes of eighth-grade junior high school students. This research and development used the Alessi & Trollip development model which consists of three stages: 1) planning, 2) design, and 3) development. The testing in this product consists of an alpha test, beta test, and effectiveness test. The alpha test involved material experts and media experts to determine the eligibility of the learning animation videos. The beta test was to determine the eligibility of the learning video involving six eighth-grade students and one English teacher from SMP N 4 Purworejo. The effectiveness test was conducted to determine the effectiveness of the learning video in improving students’ learning outcomes on the Can and Will material, involving 31 eighth-grade students from SMP N 4 Purworejo. Data were collected through observation, interviews, rating scales, and tests. The data were analyzed using descriptive analysis technique and quantitative analysis technique. This research produced an animation video of learning English on Can and Will material that is packaged in mp4 format. The product of this instructional animation video has proven eligible to improve students’ learning outcomes on Can and Will material as seen from the assessment of media aspects 4.63, material aspects 4.47, and student responses 4.8. The instructional animation video is also proven to have a high level of effectiveness in improving student learning outcomes on the Can and Will material with a gain score of 0.76 which is included in “high” criteria.
