Abstract

This study aims to: 1) implement the development of a tutorial video to improve students’ knowledge of assembling computers, 2) determine the feasibility level of the developed tutorial video, and 3) determine the effectiveness of the tutorial video based on the learning outcomes of grade X students of Networking Computer Technology (TKJ) of Muhammadiyah 3 Vocational High School Yogyakarta. This research and development refer to the ADDIE development model, consisting of 5 steps: analysis, design, development, implementation, and evaluation. The testing in this product consisted of the alpha test, beta test, and effectiveness test. The alpha test involved two material experts and two media experts to determine the feasibility of the video tutorial product, while the beta test consisted of small group trial involving one teacher and five students and large group trial involving 30 students to determine the response to the use of tutorial videos. The effectiveness test was carried out to determine the effectiveness of the products in increasing students’ knowledge of understanding the material of assembling computers that involved 30 students. Data were collected through observation, interviews, rating scales, and tests. Data were analyzed using descriptive qualitative and descriptive quantitative techniques. The results of this study are as follows. 1) A tutorial video of how to assemble a computer to be implemented for class X TKJ SMK Muhammadiyah Yogyakarta is produced in .mp4 format, which can be played using the students’ electronic devices. 2) The tutorial video is proven to be very feasible to improve students’ knowledge of assembling computers based on the assessment of material aspects 4.70 (highly feasible), media aspects 4.09 (feasible), the response of the small group, i.e. teachers 4.27 (highly feasible) and students 4.23 (highly feasible), and large group response 4.11 (feasible). 3) The developed tutorial video is also proven to be highly effective in improving students’ knowledge of assembling computers with a gain score of 0.77 (high).
