Abstract

Every region in the archipelago has its way of educating religious and moral values to its people, especially children. In this case, Aceh has its way of educating these religious and moral values through an institution that has long been the Acehnese people's pride, namely the dayah. Dayah or called pasantren in Indonesia. The dayah that will be discussed in this thesis is a traditional dayah. Some dayahs that have integrated into formal school called modern dayahs. This scientific paper aims to describe how cultivating religious and moral values in traditional dayahs for early childhood, the participation and challenges of dayah managers and the community in preserving traditional dayahs in Aceh. The research was conducted using a qualitative descriptive approach with research subjects; teungku (teachers), students, and the community. This research was conducted in three different traditional dayahs, namely: (1) Dayah Teungku Chik Digla located in Aceh Besar (2) Dayah Darul Amin located in Banda Aceh (3) Dayah Bustanul Huda in Langsa. Data obtained through interviews enhanced with documentation and observation. In this study it was found that: (1) For learning to read the Quran in traditional dayah using baghdadiyah method and planting santri moral values applied by teungku in an implicit way through learning activities in dayah, planting right moral attitude which the importance of cleanliness, dress politely, be brave, honest, polite, forgive each other and orderly, (2) Facilities and infrastructure to support dayah learning activities include a learning manual book, teaching-learning schedules and teaching-learning buildings, (3) community participation to preserve traditional dayah in the form of goods and services, such as cash and materials for dayah development or directly participate in dayah development and other dayah activities, (4) challenges faced by dayah and the community around dayah include; school priorities and additional tutoring made students start leaving dayah; modern times began to erode the peculiarities of dayah; limited funds for dayah management and the welfare of dayah teachers; lack of number of teachers or teungku in dayah; lack of understanding and provision for new teachers to educate early childhood.
