Abstract

This study aims to: (1) produce discovery learning model that can improve the ability of independence in children aged 4-5 years , (2) find out the feasibility of a discovery learning model that can improve the ability of independence in children aged 4-5 years , (3) to find out the effectiveness of the discovery learning model on the ability of independence in children aged 4-5 years . This study used a Research and Development (RnD) type of research. The model was ADDIE which consisted of five steps including analysis, design, development, implementation, and evaluation. For expert validation, it involves evaluation instrument experts, material experts, and media experts. The trial in this study was carried out through two stages, namely initial field trials and implementation tests. Collecting data techniques used were interviews, questionnaires, and observations. Data analysis in this study was quantitative with descriptive and qualitative. The subjects used in this study were children aged 4-5 years, totaling 20 children. The results show that: (1) the product of this study is in the form of discovery learning model that can improve the ability of independence in children aged 4-5 years. (2) The Discovery learning model can be said to be feasible by evaluation instrument expert, material expert, media expert, and response from teachers. The feasibility of the discovery model assessment from the evaluation instrument expert is 28 based on the independence aspect, the material expert is of86 based on the material aspect, steps and presentation language. There are 72 of media experts based on the graphic aspect, color, letters, book structure, language and illustrations. The final result of the trial assessment shows an average value of 30.9. (3) the effectiveness of the learning model is measured its effect on seven aspects of independence including physical ability, sociability, self-confidence, responsibility, sharing, controlling emotions, and discipline. The average score of the pre test is 16.85 while the post test is 30.9 and after the conversion of the N Gain test the average pre test results assessment is 51.06 while the post test is 93.63. Based on the results of statistical testing shows that the value of Asymp.Sig (2 tailed) is .000 where the value is less than 0.005. This shows that there is a difference between the results of the pre test and post test. Therefore, it can be concluded that there is an effect on the independence ability of children aged 4-5 years by using the discovery learning model.
