Abstract

This research aims to: (1) analyze the need to develop garden-based learning models, (2) produce a garden-based learning models to improve children prosocial behavior competence, (3) validate the feasibility of the garden-based learning model to improve the competence of child prosocial behavior, (4) determine the effectiveness of the garden-based learning model on the competence of child prosocial behavior. This was a research and development adopted ADDIE model. The respondents of this research were 33 children aged 5-6 years. Techniques and data collection instruments were interviews, observation and validation sheets. The data analysis technique was the nonparametric test and N-Gain test. The results of this study show that: (1) Based on need analysis, the teachers need learning model that emphasizes garden-based learning listed on the level of achievement of Children’s social development, (2) The product of this study is a garden-based learning model packaged in the form of implementation handbook which consist of opening activities, core activities and closing activity. This activity interrelated consists of 3 types, namely planting media, planting and harvesting in mini gardens, (3) based on expert validation, the product is feasible with the score of 84 material expert and 96 media expert, (4) the effectiveness of the product is obtained by using the N-Gain test, which is the average score for class B1 is 75.5%, while the score for class B2 is 62.6% (both scores indicate quite effective results). The result of the nonparametric test (Asymp.sig(2 tailed)) <0.05 obtained the value of sig.0,00 which shows that the differences in the result of the pretest and posttest on the garden-based learning model so that it can significantly affect the competence of children’s prosocial behavior. Therefore, it can be concluded that the garden-based learning model is quite effective on the competence of prosocial behavior of children aged 5-6 years.
