Abstract
This study aims to determine: (1) the effectiveness of traditional games on children's social skills, (2) the effectiveness of traditional games on children's gross motor skills, (3) the effectiveness of conventional learning on children's social skills, (4) the effectiveness of conventional learning on children's gross motor skills. , (5) The difference between traditional games and conventional learning on children's social skills, (6) The difference between traditional games and conventional learning on children's gross motor skills. This was quasi-experimental study, targeting 5-6 years old children in kindergarten of Ngaglik, Sleman Yogyakarta. This research subject was 70 children, consisting of 35 children as the experimental group and 35 children as the control group, established using the simple random sampling technique. The experimental group was taught using the traditional games, while the control group was taught using the conventional method. The data collection instrument was in the form of an observation sheet. The data were analyzed by using wilcoxon test and mann whitney test. The results were explained as follow. (1) The traditional games were effective on children's social skills with sig < (0.000 < 0.05) with an average difference of 9.48, (2) The traditional games were effective on children's gross motor skills with sig < (0.000 < 0 0.05) with an average difference of 1.86, (3) The conventional learning was effective on children's social skills but traditional games more effective with an increase in pretest- posttest of 20.94 in the experimental group and 10.4 in the control group, ( 4) The conventional learning was effective for children's gross motor skills but traditional games more effective with an increase in pretest-posttest of 4 in the experimental group and 1.94 in the control group, (5) There was a difference between traditional games and conventional learning on children's social skills with a sig of 0.000 <0.05 (6) There was a difference between traditional games and conventional learning on children's gross motor skills with a sig of 0.000 <0.05
