Abstract

The study aims: (1) produce educational media games, and (2) know the educational media game effectiveness that comes from improving the reading skills and responsibilities of elementary school students. This research and development refers to the step developed by the Borg and Gall covering ten steps, that is. (1) information collection, (2) planning, (3) initial product development, (4) initial field test, (5) initial product revision, (6) primary field test, (7) product revision, (8) operational field test, and (9) revision of the final product, and (10) dissemination and implementation. Initial field test subjects are student and teacher of fifth grade at the Rejondani State Elementary School. The primary field test subjects are student and teacher of fifth grade at Prambanan State Elementary School. The operational field test subjects are 26 students and teacher of V-A grade at Kenaran 2 State Elementary School as a control class and 26 students and teacher of V-B grade at Kenaran 2 State Elementary School as an experimental class. Data collection is carried out using a product assessment sheet, a teacher's response questionnaire, student’s response questionnaire, a responsible attitude questionnaire, and pre-test and post-test question. Data analysis uses independent sample t-test and paired sample t-tests at level of 0.05 significance. The result of this research shows that. (1) educational media games are worthy of use to improve reading skills and student’s responsibilities. The educational media worthiness of the game can be seen from the assessment of the materials expert and media expert on the "very good" category. Teacher and student responses to the educational media games usage indicate that educational games help in the learning process. (2) educational media games that are developed effectively in improving reading the understanding skills and student’s responsibility of fifth grade at Kenaran 2 State Elementary School, Sleman. The effectiveness is seen from the results of the test using a independent sample t-test that shows the significant value is 0,000 or sig>0.05 thus there is a significant difference between the result of reading the understanding skill and responsibilities questionnaire between control class and experiment. While the results of the paired sample t-test show the significant value is 0,000 or sig<0.05 so that there is a significant difference between the result of reading the understanding skill and responsibilities questionnaire in the experiment class before and after using the educational media game.
