Abstract

This study aims to: (1) produce a proper Pop Up Book media based on discovery learning to improve logical thinking ability and responsibility of fifth grades Student in Praya, Central Lombok, NTB, (2) examine the effectiveness of Pop Up Book media based on discovery learning to improve logical thinking ability and responsibility of fifth grades Student in Praya, Central Lombok, NTB. This study employed Research and Development (R & D) approach proposed by Borg & Gall (1983) model which consist of 10 steps of developing a product. The subjects were 5 teachers and 102 students at 5 elementary schools in Praya. The data were collected through interview, observation, scale, questionnaire and logical thinking test. The instrument of the research involved teacher interview guideline, student preliminary study questionnaire, validation scale of media and material expert, teacher and student response questionnaire, responsibility observation guideline and logical thinking test. The feasibility of the media through scale by the media and material expert, while the media practicality assessment consists of teacher and student response questionnaire. The effectiveness of The Pop Up Book media based on discovery learning on logical thinking ability and responsibility was analyzed using t-test and MANOVA test with significance level of 0,05. The results of the study show that: (1) The Pop Up Book media based on discovery learning meets the quality requirements from the assessment result from media and material experts with ‘excellent’ category; (2) The Pop Up Book media based on discovery learning meets the criteria of practicality based on teachers and student’s response questionnaires with ‘excellent’ category; (2) The Pop Up Book media based on discovery learning is effective on logical thinking ability and responsibility of fifth grade students in Praya, Central Lombok, NTB. The effectiveness is shown from t-test and MANOVA test with significance level obtained is 0,000.
