Abstract
The objectives of this study were: 1) To determine the relationship between self-esteem and dating violence among students at Senior High School 7 Yogyakarta. 2) To determine the relationship between assertiveness and violence in dating among students at Senior High School 7 Yogyakarta. 3) To determine the relationship between self-esteem and assertiveness together with dating violence among students at Senior High School 7 Yogyakarta. The objectives of this research are to determine the relationships between two variabels (self esteem and assertiveness) and dating violence. This research employed a quantitative approach method. The type of research is a correlational research design. This research was conducted at Senior High School 7 Yogyakarta in January-February2021. The subjects in this study were senior high school students with a total sample of 136 students aged 16-18 years, had or are currently dating. The sampling technique in this study was using purposive sampling technique. Data sources in this research werefrom school counselors and senior high school students. The data collection method used in this study was to use an online questionnaire. The research instrument was tested for validity and reliability. The average validity test results of the self-esteem variable was 0,246 > 0,168,the assertiveness variable was 0,337 > 0,168 and the dating violence variable was 0,299 > 0,168. The results of the reliability test of the self-esteem variable were 0,787, the assertiveness variable was 0,862 and the dating violence variable was 0,808. The data analysis technique used were descriptive statistical analysis, Kendall Tau correlation and Ordinal Regression using SPSS version 24.00. The results showed that: 1) there was a positive and significant relationship between self esteem and dating violence among students at Senior High School 7 Yogyakarta (Kendall’s tau correlations 0,000 < 0,05). 2) there was a positive and significant relationship between assertiveness and dating violence among students at Senior High School 7 Yogyakarta (Kendall’s tau correlations 0,000 < 0,05). 3) there was a positive and significant relationship betweenself esteem and assertiveness with dating violence among students at Senior High School 7 Yogyakarta (Ordinal regression analysis obtained wald value 0,016 < 0,05). Based on the research results, it can be used as a reference material and as input for principals and teachers, especially guidance and counseling teachers in providing guidance and counseling services, especially those related to dating violence.
