Abstract

This research aims to determine the effectiveness of modeling techniques to increase self-confidence and achievement motivation of grade VII junior high school students inYogyakarta. This research is a quantitative research with the type of experiment. The variables used in this study are modeling techniques as independent variable, while for the dependent variable is self-confidence and achievement motivation. The research is quasi experimental using non equivalent control group design. The purposive sampling method was employed to recruit 20 students from two different junior high schools in Yogyakarta. The recruited participants were students who had low self-confidence and achievement motivation.The data were collected by using the self-confidence scale and the achievement motivation scale that has been validated through the expert justment assessment process by two expert lecturers. The data were analyzed by using the Wilcoxon Signed Rank Test to determine the effect after treatment and the Mann Whitney (U) test to investigate the effectiveness of modeling techniques on self-confidence and achievement motivation. The results show that modeling techniques are effective to increase the participants’ self-confidence (sign = 0,000 <0,05) and achievement motivation (sign, = 0,000 <0,05). Therefore, it can be concluded that modeling technique is effective to increase the self-confidence and achievement motivation of junior high school students.
