Abstract

The objective of this research were: (1) examining the feasibility of the module in improving students' self-control; (3) examining the effectiveness of the self-control module in improving students' self-control. This research was a research and development (R&D) using the 4D (four D) model. The stages applied were define, design, develop, and disseminate. This research was conducted at 4 high schools in Yogyakarta City with 118 research subjects. The sampling technique used was purposive sampling. The data collection technique was done by interviewing and using an online self-control scale. The self-control scale consisted of 35 valid items with a Cronbach's Alpha value of 0.911. The data analysis technique used the paired sample t-test, by doing the prerequisite analysis test in the form of the Kolmogorov- Smirnov normality test and the homogeneity test. The module had been developed based on the necessity for guidance and counseling services media, especially concerning about self-control material. The result of expert judgment showed that the self-control module was very appropriate to use by students and had fulfilled the criteria for a suitable module in terms of content, media, and had met the expediency with a focus on students' cognitive abilities. The results of trials showed that there were differences in the level of student self-control before and after the use of the module, and it was proven by the results of the paired sample t-test which obtained a significance value (2-tailed) of 0.000 (p <0.05). Thus, it can be concluded that the self- control module, entitled "you need to control yourself", is feasible to be utilized as a strategy in improving self-control of high school students in Yogyakarta City.
