Abstract

This research aims to develop and validate career decision-making instruments for Senior High School Students, which can help guide and counsel teachers in providing guidance and counseling services in the career field. The research design of this study is research and development (R&D), which consists of eight steps: a) identification of measuring objectives (establishing constructs), b) limiting the measuring domain, c) operational aspects, d) writing items, e) language testing (qualitative evaluation) and field testing (quantitative evaluations), f) item selection, g) construct validation and reliability, and h) final compilation. The researcher implied the students' and expert' assessments to validate the instrument. The instrument's try-out is applied to the small groups, and large groups consisted of 32 students and 233 students from class XI and XII. To analyze the data, the researcher combined statistical calculations with SPSS and confirmatory factor analysis (CFA) through Lisrel. Data analysis could be good if the RSMEA score were < 0,05 dan the chi-square was > 0,05. The final result of this research was the instrument that was equipped with a guidebook and how to analyze the instrument's result, so the counseling teachers were easier to use in schools. The results showed that the career decision-making instrument was feasible, and the expert validated it. Expert judgment and small group trials showed that the instrument was feasible to be tested based on the initial EFA results, which proved that the 80 statement items changed to 76 statements because the MSA value of 4 items was less than 0.5, so the statements were eliminated based on the analysis. The researcher revised several items in the instrument and conducted a large group trial. The confirmatory factor analysis results using CFA show that the instrument's model was feasible and quite fit to use by guidance and counseling teachers to assist senior high school students in making career decisions in the future. It was proofed by the loading factor value of each statement > 0,3 so that only 49 valid statement items remain. The results of the overall analysis of the instrument showed that the chi-square value is 1153,21 > 0,05 and the RSMEA value is 0,014 < 0,05. These results indicated that the model was a good fit. Overall, this instrument was reliable at a fairly reliable level with an overall reliability value of 0,559.
