Abstract

his study aims to: (1) determine the level of social skills of grade 11 students of state senior high school 10 in Yogyakarta; (2) testing the effectiveness of the behavioral skills training technique in group guidance to increase the social skills of grade 11 students of State Senior High School 10 Yogyakarta. This study was a true experimental quantitative research with a pretest- posttest control group design. The population of this study are grade 11 students of State Senior High School 10 Yogyakarta. Determination of the sample using cluster random sampling technique in order to obtain a random sample of students of Science Class 11-3 becomes the experimental class and students of Science Class 11-1 becomes the control class. The object of this research was the social skills of grade 11 students of State Senior High School 10 Yogyakarta. The instrument used was the student's social skill scale with 106 statement items. The content validity using the Gregory model obtained a score of 0.94 which means high validity. The results of the Cronbach's alpha reliability test was 0.961. The data analysis technique used the Wilcoxon test to see the effect of the treatment, while the Mann Whitney test was used to answer the hypothesis. The results shows that (1) the level of social skills of the experimental and control group students both in the pretest and posttest are high, (2) the Wilcoxon test results obtained a significance value of 0.001<0.05, while the significance value of the Mann Whitney test is 0.517> 0.05 so that Ha is rejected and Ho is accepted which means that the behavioral skills training technique in group guidance is not effective to increase the social skills of grade 11 students of State Senior High School 10 Yogyakarta.
