Abstract

The purpose of this study was to reveal the effectiveness of selfmanagement technique with self-monitoring and self-reward strategies in reducing the level of academic procrastination of grade X students of SMAN 2 Banguntapan. This study used a quasi-experiment approach with equivalent time-series design. Samples were 6 out of 25 students of Class X MIPA 1, selected using purposive sampling technique. Data were collected using a procrastination scale in the form of Procrastinational Assessment Scale-Student (PASS) by Salomon and Rothblum. The reliability test in this study used Cronbach Alpha formula. The test result with the Cronbach Alpha was 0.698>0.60. Data analysis technique used in this study was the Mann-Whitney U test. The results show that self-management techniques are effective in decreasing the level of academic procrastination of grade X students with sig 0.000. Because sig 0.003<0.05, it can be concluded that the use of self-management technique with self-monitoring and self-reward strategies is effective in decreasing the level of academic procrastination of grade X students of SMAN 2 Banguntapan. The decline in academic procrastination behavior occurred after receiving selfmonitoring strategy treatment through filling out the self-monitoring and selfreward daily sheets through identifying the prizes desired by students as a form of self-appreciation.
