Abstract

The purposes of this study were to: (1) find the learner needs of Islamic English learning materials in Integrated Islamic Elementary School; (2) find the learning needs of Islamic English learning materials in Integrated Islamic Elementary School; (3) find how Islamic English learning materials in Integrated Islamic Elementary School were to be developed; (4) find the appropriate Islamic English learning materials for Integrated Islamic Elementary School. This developmental research referred to the model adapted from Borg & Gall. The researcher conducted the research in SDIT Wahdatul Ummah Metro, Lampung. The field testing subjects were 33 students of grade five. The researcher collected the data through a questionnaire, semi-structured interview, and observation. Then the researcher analyzed the data qualitatively and quantitatively. The writer used descriptive qualitative techniques from Creswell for analyzing the qualitative data gained from the interview and observation. Then, the researcher used descriptive statistics for analyzing the quantitative data which were obtained from the set of the questionnaires. The researcher used Likert Scale for measuring each point in the questionnaire. This research revealed four findings. First, the results of the needs analysis showed that most of students wanted to integrate Islamic values into their English learning materials. Second, the learning needs consisted of input, activity, setting, learner’s role and teacher’s role. Third, the product was developed into six units. Those units were 'Can You Spell Your Name?', 'What Fruits Do You Like?', 'Do You Have a Pet?', 'I Want Spinach Soup', 'There Are Many Things in My School' and 'I Wake Up at 5 a.m. Everyday’. Each unit consisted of unit title, learning objectives, learning activities, reflection, and summary. Fourth, the results of the interview with the teachers and students indicated that the product was quite appropriate and contextually to be applied in the process of English teaching and learning in the classroom.
