Abstract

The aim of this study is to reveal the effectiveness of Flash-based multimedia for learning basic computer networking in motivating and and improving the learning achievement of grade 10 students of Vocational High School II, Depok, Sleman, Yogyakarta. This study was a quasi-experimental study using the non-equivalent control group design. The population was students of grade 10, Department of Computer Network Technology (TKJ), Vocational High School 2 (SMKN2) Depok Sleman consisting of two classes with the total number of 63 students. The sampling technique used was the simple random sampling technique while the data collection techniques were questionnaire and test. The data were analyzed using ANOVA and MANOVA tests. The results are as follows (1) Flash-based multimedia for learning basic computer network was effective in motivating grade 10 students of Vocational High School 2( SMKN2), Depok Sleman, Yogyakarta This is shown by the F count> F table (8.800> 4.00) or p-value of less than 0.05 (p = 0.004 <0.05). The gain score of motivation to learn in the experimental class which implemented the Flash-based multimedia was 0.31 in the average/medium category while the conventional media implemented in the control class was 0.16 in the category of low effectiveness. (2) The Flash-based multimedia for learning basic computer network was effective in improving the learning achievement of grade 10 students. This is shown by F count> F table (29.777> 4.00) or a p-value less than 0.05 (p = 0.000 <0.05). The gain score in the experimental class that implemented the Adobe Flash CS6 media was 0.31 in the category of moderate/average effectiveness and the gain score in the control class which implemented the conventional learning model was 0.07 in the category of low effectiveness. (3) The Flash-based multimedia for learning basic computer learning network was effective both in motivating and improving the learning achievement of grade 10 students of Vocational High School (SMK2), Depok Sleman, Yogyakarta. This is indicated by the significance value of less than 0.05 (p = 0.000 <0.05).
