Abstract

In the era of national development, the potential human resources are absolutely needed. Therefore, the education area has important role. The success of education in implementing its role will be determined by many factors. One of them is the profile of teacher who has some competences in doing their educational duties. Therefore, it can be understood that the role and foothold of teacher is often related to the forward or backward steps in education quality. Thereby, it's reasonable for every teacher to always increase his/her professional abilities to do their responsibilities and duties as educator. Among many teacher competences, one of them is about the ability of teacher in class management, i.e. an ability described as the effort of teacher to create and to maintain the class condition, so that the learning process can be done effectively and efficiently. Many facts showed that a teacher who doesn't understand the way to discipline students often faces difficulties in resolving student's indiscipline problems. It can cause teachers relying only on their teaching experience. Therefore, there are many events occurring that are caused by teachers' mistake in handling their students' misbehavior and inappropriate actions. For example, there are many issues occurring in mass media highlighting teachers who giving physical punishment to their students. In relation to these, communities will sue and question the role of teacher as guide and educator who don't have professional attitude in handling such a problem. Here, the education world will be challenged to answer all the questions. Beside all things above, teachers shouldn't forget that discipline is as important as the learning process itself. It's because the success of learning will be determined by the class condition that is on teacher's control who able to discipline their students. In other words, learning effectiveness will be reached if teachers are able to discipline the students.
