Abstract
THE USE OF BILINGUAL DICTIONARIES IN LEARNING ENGLISH AMONG STUDENTS OF PUBLIC AND PRIVATE HIGH SCHOOLS IN KOTA YOGYAKARTA 2012/2013 By Aditya Noor Supraba 05202244170 ABSTRACT The purposes of this study are to provide an empirical evidence about the use of bilingual dictionary in learning English among students of high schools in Kota Yogyakarta and to describe the use of bilingual dictionary in learning English among students of high schools in Kota Yogyakarta. The study is a survey, involving 160 students from 8 high schools in Kota Yogyakarta. The data were taken from 80 students of 4 public and 4 private high schools in Kota Yogyakarta. The data were in the form of quantitative data. They were collected using a questionnaire given to the students. The questionnaire was self made by the researcher. Before it was used to collect the data, it was tried out for validity and reliability. The data were analyzed descriptively. The results of this study are the students’ opinion to use bilingual dictionary indicates that it is in the good level. The mean score is 9.2125. The students’ ability to use bilingual dictionary is also in the good level. The mean score is 5.4813. The benefit of bilingual dictionary in learning English is also in the good level. The mean score is 28.0438. It means that, in general the use of bilingual dictionary among students at public and private high school in Kota Yogyakarta falls into the good category.
