Abstract

This study aims to produce a statistics and probability teaching kit for grade X students of senior high school in their 2nd semester based on the guided discovery method and oriented to Curriculum 2013, which is appropriate in terms of validity, practicality, and effectiveness aspects. This research and development study used the 4D model suggested by Thiagarajan, Semmel, & Semmel. The developmental design was grouped into four developmental procedures consisting of define, design, develop, and disseminate. The subjects of the study were 10th grade students of SMA Negeri 1 Maospati. The instrument of this study consisted of (1) validation sheets to measure validity, (2) teacher assessment sheet, student assessment sheet, and observation sheet to measure practicality, and (3) a learning achievement test and questionnaires to measure effectiveness. The validity and practicality were analyzed by converting the actual scores obtained into five scale qualitative data. The effectiveness was analyzed by determining the percentage of student’s mastery in a test and in each category of the questionnaires. This study produces a mathematics teaching kit consisting of lesson plans, student worksheets, a learning achievement test, and questionnaire that are valid, practical, and effective. The validity of the product can be seen from the result of the validation which shows that the lesson plan, student worksheet, the learning achievement test, and questionnaires are valid. The result of the field test shows that the mathematics teaching kit is practical and effective. The application of the kit is more than 80% which is 84.29% for statistics and 94.12% in the topic of probability. The practicality aspect is in a good category if viewed from the teacher assessment and in a very good category if viewed from the student assessment. The result of the achievement test shows that more than 75% of the students have achieved the minimum mastery. The questionnaire result also shows that more than 75% of the students have achieved minimum mastery. Thus, the mathematics teaching kit is appropriate to use viewed from the validity, practicality, and effectiveness aspects.
