Abstract

This research aims to improve the students’ reading comprehension using a Think Pair Share technique. The method used in this research is Classroom Action Research (CAR) developed by Kemmis and Mc Taggart. The design consists of planning, action, observation, and reflection. This research was conducted in three cycles of actions. The subjects of the research were the students of class XI Science 4 consisting of 22 persons. The researcher collected the data by using observations, interviews, questionnaire, and documentation as the qualitative data. Meanwhile, the quantitative data were collected by using tests. The research finding reveals that the Think Pair Share technique improves the reading learning process which leads into the improvement of students’ reading comprehension. The improvement can be seen from the students’ behavior and students’ self report. The students are more active and motivated in joining reading class. They can interact with their pairs actively. They are also more confident in sharing their ideas in front of the class. The students mean score in the pre-test is 52.73. It increases to 61.09 in the post-test 1. It increases to 69.82 in the post-test 2 and became 84.55 in the post-test 3. The students’ response of Think Pair Share technique can be seen from the questionnaire as follows. 18 students choose agree and 4 students choose strongly agree that Think Pair Share technique can improve their reading comprehension.
