Abstract

This research aims at determining: 1) preparation ways of copper nanoparticles by the oxidation-reduction method, 2) characters of copper nanoparticles, and 3) copper characters of copper clay heating results. Copper metal wire was dissolved and reduced with Fe metal formed to copper deposits. The deposits were filtered and washed with chloroform, and then dried and added with PEG 1000 as much as 5%b/b, then crushed and heated in a furnace until melting. The melt was characterized with XRD and SEM. Based on the research results and data analyses, it can be concluded that: 1) copper nanoparticles can be prepared with oxidation-reduction method, 2) copper nanoparticels are crystalline with the size of 20 nm to 50 nm, 3) the secondary phase of Cu2O and metals with small relative number can be observed in copper nanoparticles samples, 4) the heating of copper clay produces the crystalline phase involving Cu, CuO dan Cu2O. Keywords : copper clay, copper nanoparticles
