Abstract

This study aims at integrating mental training with visualization methods into Tennis instruction, in order to promote learning outcomes. The subjects in this study are fourth semester students of PKO (Department of Coaching Education) who chose Tennis subject. This is an action research which included four cycles. Each cycle contained the activities of planning, action, observation, and reflection. The result of reflection on the previous cycle determined the planning of the next cycle. Instruments used to collect data were: skills tests, interviews, observation, and questionnaires. The results of this research showed that integrating mental training using the visualization method which was integrated into the technique training is one of appropriate methods to improve technical mastery of the service, groundstroke, and volley in Tennis game. Mental training is most appropriate given before and after technique training. From these results, improving learning outcomes of right services, left services, forehand groundstroke, backhand groundstroke, forehand volley, and backhand volley showed a very significant improvement.
