Abstract

This study describes the kinship of Java language and the Bali language based on Javanese Bausastra and Bali Dictionary. The kinship of the both languages can be seen from the corresponding words and percentage between Javanese and Balinese. This study is a descriptive study. data used are 200 Morrish Swadesh’s basic vocabulary. The source of data in this study are Java dictionary essay namely S. Prawiroatmodjo and Bali-Indonesia Dictionary lexicographer essay committee Bali-Indonesia, Department teaching level 1 area of Bali province headed by Drs. I Wayan Warna. This study uses an analysis of comparative historical linguistics. Data collection technique in this study was by using reading and noting technique. The data analysis uses descriptive way of explaining the correspondence of sounds and meanings as well as calculate the percentage of words that correspond. The validity of the data used is the validity of the triangulation theory, meanwhile the reliability used is the stability reliability. The results of this study is formed the sound and meaning correspondence along with the kinship of Javanese and Balinese percentage. The form of the correspondence relates to vowels and consonants phonemes. Vowel phoneme correspondence are phoneme /i/ ~ /ǝ/, /i/; phoneme /ɔ/ ~ /a/; phoneme /u/ ~ /i/, /u/; phoneme /ǝ/ ~ /i/; phoneme /ɛ/ ~ /e/; phoneme /a/ ~ /ǝ/; phoneme /o/ ~ /u/, /o/; phoneme /e/ ~ /o/. The form of the loss vowel phonemes are /ǝ/, /a/, /ɔ/ and /u/. The form of consonant phoneme correspondence are consonant~ consonant, consonant phonemes added, loss of consonant phonemes, nasal ~ nasal, and the loss of nasal phonemes. The correspondence form of consonants ~ consonants are phoneme /w/ ~ /b/; phoneme /t/ ~ /ṭ/; phoneme /l/ ~ /b/, /r/; phoneme /s/ ~ /r/; phoneme /r/ ~ /ḍ/; phoneme /d/ ~ /j/, /ḍ/; phoneme /b/ ~ /w/; phoneme /k/ ~ /k/; phoneme /ŋ/ ~ /i/. The form of consonant phonemes added are /p/, /w/, and /k/. The form of consonant phonemes disappearance are /r/, /m/, /k/, /p/, /h/, and /b/. The form of nasal phonemes is /m/ ~ /ŋ and a form of added nasal phoneme is /ŋ/. The distribution corresponding phonemes are at the beginning of words, the beginning of the first syllable, the beginning of the second syllable, ending the first syllable, the second syllable endings, the endings third syllable, the closed second syllable, the closed early second syllable, middle of the word, the center of the first syllable, the center of the second syllable, and the endings of words. Sound’s changes in this study are aferesis, syncope, protesis, and paragog. The kinship percentage of Java and Bali language is found as much as 60% (120 words) of 200 Morris Swadesh’s basic vocabulary. Therefore, the percentage of them are family category.
