Abstract

This research aims at determining whether or not the model of physical education instruction which involves role playing results in different students’ social behaviour from the direct/conventional model of instruction, both for male and female students. The populations involved in this study were the students of SD Negeri Sidorejo/Sidorejo State Elementary School, Kalasan, Sleman Regency year 2002/2003 and the samples of this research were students of grade 5. This study used the quasi experiment method. Thus, the samples were divided into two groups, 35 students in the experiment group and 33 students in the control group taken randomly. The researcher used questionnaires on social behaviour as the research instrument which had been tested on its validity and reliability. The data were analyzed using T-test. The result of this study show that there were different social behaviour of the students who were treated by physical education instruction which used the role playing method from those who were treated with the direct instruction model. T-test resulted in p = 0.088. The social behaviour of the students who were treated using the direct instruction model showed in the mean value of 62.057:51.485. There were no differences in social behaviour between male and female students determined by p = 0.541 as the result of t-test.
