Abstract

This study was aimed to understand how the leadership style of gender and sustainable environment development of selected NGOs in Yogyakarta in Indonesia and to analyze what the optimal contributions of gender and sustainable environment development of their NGOs of Yogyakarta province in Indonesia Qualitative research case study method was used to analyze this study. Data was collected by documentation, direct observations and interview. Sample was selected from two NGOs purposively: WALHI Yogyakarta NGO and Mitra Pranata, Lembaga pemberdayaan sumber daya manusia NGO.The subjects of this study were the leaders, staffs and members of Mitra pranata and WALHI Yogyakarta NGO in Yogyakarta in Indonesia. Data was collected from two NGO leaders, from all staffs and selected members. This research findings showed that these NGO’s leader used Transformational leadership style. WALHI Yogyakarta NGO has good achievements for Yogyakarta environment including- forest, spring , mine and others because they work about three aspects -policy research, campaign and organizing community. Mitra Pranata NGO also has good achievements. They work in small areas in Lendah village, Kulon Progo. There have been 129 women batik makers but Mitra Pranata leader has selected only 85 women for batik marketing business according to her NGO resources. It can be concluded from the research problems, she concentrates directly on her job, she likes to make competitive nature to improve her organization and both leaders want to develop more of their organizations. From this thesis findings, it can be said that leadership style can be conducted by informal way and it also has great benefits. Therefore, educational leaders can use some informal approaches to improve the teachers quality and community poor people to enrole their childrens to school. Some recommendations can be concluded of this findings that WALHI Yogyakarta or KOMBI organization would be closer to community, WALHI Yogyakarta must keep specific data or outcomes for water spring management activities. Therefore, future researchers can get this access for any purposes, Mitra Pranata must keep specific data and outcomes for gender economic activities of their organization and Mitra Pranata needs to evaluate all batik makers families and their economical status.
